Drug addiction affects everyone and does not care who you are or what you do. It is a thing that most people have dealt with, whether it is firsthand or through a friend or loved one. To show you how serious an issue a drug addiction is, we have compiled a list of the top celebrity drug addicts. Out of all people, you would think that celebrities would be immune to this disease, because they live fairy tale lives, right? Wrong, they suffer more than anyone, because their lives are lived in the spot light and under all of the pressure drugs and alcohol are a way to cope with the day to day struggle.
Celebrities Who Kicked Their Drug Addiction!
There is no order to the list below, just like there is no way to understand who or why drug addiction affects the people that it does. Many celebrities have successful recovered from a drug addiction. Many of them have gone on to lead successful lives in recovery and they also are a shining beacon to the world that recovery does work. Without further ado:
Robert Downey Jr. – RDJr suffered an early addiction when he came to fame with the Brat Pack. He has had a tumultuous career in the spot light, but he is one of the rare few who actually recover from their drug addictions and have a successful second wind. Downey Jr, has been sober since 2003, which is a true miracle. Drug addiction can happen to anyone, but so can recovery.
Glen Beck – Famous television personality, Glen Beck has had his run in with addiction. Beck was stricken with addiction and lost control of his life around age 30. He has since put together long term sobriety and he has enjoyed great success. Although he is not liked by all, his sobriety and recovery is something that should be admired.
Eric Clapton – Famous musician Eric Clapton struggled with drug addiction. The fast life caught up with Eric Clapton and in the late 1980s he realized that he could no longer toil with his addiction. He realized that he could not do it on his own and asked for help. This is the defining moment for every person struggling with addiction, the realization that it no longer works. Eric Clapton maintained sobriety even through the tragedy of losing his son. He also has a world class treatment center in the Caribbean, where he helps people to recover from drug addiction. His drug rehab center is called Crossroads Centre. Addiction does take it toll, but it can lead to some beautiful things as well. Clapton is a prime example of this.
Elton John – Once addicted to both alcohol and cocaine, Elton John struggled like so many famous musicians do to this terrible disease. He was once quoted as saying that the hardest thing he ever did in his life was get sober. Coming from Elton John, these are some pretty impressive words.
Jamie Lee Curtis – Addiction can happen at any age. Jamie Lee Curtis is proof of this, as she became addicted to pain killers when she was 35. She is now in her 50s and has over 10 years of sobriety. She has said that her sobriety is the most important thing in her life, because without it, nothing else would be possible.
This is by no means a conclusive list of celebrities in recovery, but it is a group of celebs who are living happy and successful lives in recovery. There are many celebrities who never get to enjoy a sober life, which is much more rewarding.
